Microsoft recently unveiled the winners of the 2024 “Xbox Excellence” awards, showcasing a stellar lineup of deserving titles. From standout indie gems like Balatro to our very own Game of the Year, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, it’s a well-rounded collection of games that have made waves this year.
According to Microsoft, “Amazing games are at the heart of our mission to bring the joy and community of gaming to everyone on the planet. Now, more screens than ever can be an Xbox, and those screens are lit up by the incredible portfolio of games brought to life by talented developers around the world. These teams create unforgettable gaming experiences that engage and inspire players of all ages. As a thank you to the creators of those games, and to shine a light on the games that players loved in 2024, today we’re announcing the recipients of the 2024 Xbox Excellence Awards.”
The awards are divided into four categories, designed to reflect players’ “passion, engagement, and love” for the titles that made an impact this year:
Store Rating: The highest-rated games across Xbox stores, with a minimum of 500 ratings.
Player Engagement: Titles with the highest average hours per player within the first six weeks of release.
Daily Active Users: Games or major updates that boasted the highest single-day active users in 2024. This includes games that weren’t necessarily released in 2024 but received significant updates.
Units Sold: The top-selling games across both Xbox and Microsoft stores.
The final list of winners is diverse, including games from studios ranging from small indie teams to large development studios across 15 countries worldwide.
